Verrucae – what are my options?

Greetings, salaam, shalom and namaste to you and all. I trust you’re safe, well and in good spirits.

Today I would like to talk about warts on the feet, commonly known as Verruca or Verrucae (pl). Warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and are most commonly seen on the hands and feet of children and those with a low immunity, but they can also affect normal healthy adults.

Often caught from communal changing rooms, swimming pools or any area where you go barefoot, they are very contagious and can be passed on to other family members. You can reduce the chance of spreading the infection by not sharing towels, keeping your feet covered and wearing gym or swim slippers in public places.

The most common reason for seeking treatment is the appearance. Some verrucae may resolve by themselves so the best thing to start with is, keep them covered. You may also use over the counter remedies. However, this may take weeks or in some cases months and are less effective in large or deep infections. So if they are spreading or have become painful it’s important that you seek treatment quickly.

There are many types of verrucae infections and their age, depth, severity, and location all play a part and will determine your treatment options. The treatments we offer include, Chemical, Freezing using ‘Cryoderm’,  Medical microwave, Plasma laser or Surgery.

At your first visit you will be seen by our Foot Specialist(s) who will provide an expert evaluation and give you a formal diagnosis. This is often the most important step in managing any problem.

We will then discuss your surgical and non-surgical options in detail and formulate a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Why not call us today to see how we may be able to help you.

Thanks for reading and on behalf of everyone at the Foot Comfort Centre we hope you have a great day,

Firoz
