Today I would like to introduce our new Joint Injection Therapy service for those suffering from painful joints due to osteoarthritis.
We now offer Ostenil® injections which contain hyaluronic acid. This is a gel-like compound that compensates for the loss of cartilage and synovial fluid, the ‘oil-like’ substance which lubricates joints.
Ostenil® is injected into the joint space and will decrease pain, stiffness, and other symptoms associated with painful osteoarthritic joints. Joint injection therapy is suitable for any synovial joints in the body including foot, ankle, knee, hand, elbow, and jaw.
The synovial fluid in the joint capsule has four important functions:
- It keeps the bones slightly apart, protecting their cartilage coverings from wear and tear.
- It absorbs shocks, again protecting the cartilage.
- It lubricates the joint, helping it to work freely and easily.
- It acts as a filter, letting nutrients reach the cartilage, but blocking the passage of harmful cells and substances.
